Nigerian Instagram star Hushpuppi arrested in $431M scam

A Nigerian who gained world wide attention on Instagram for showcasing his wealth including private jets and luxury cars has been arrested.

Mr. Raymond Igbalode Abbas who is known on Instagram as Hushpuppi was arrested in Dubai by the FBI and Interpol on Thursday.

Also arrested in the raid is another popular Instagram ‘star’ called Olalekan Jacob Ponle, who uses the name Woodberry on the social platform.

They are accused of setting up fake websites online using the brand names of some of the world’s most famous retail companies and banks.

Police said the group then steal financial informations and use them to gain access to accounts belonging to their victims.

They then channel the stolen cash into their own personal bank accounts.

The FBI and Interpol led operation nick-named ‘Fox Hunt 2’ resulted in the arrest of 12 suspects.

Authorities also recovered 13 luxury cars, 47 smartphones, hard drives, 800,000 email addresses suspected to belong to their victims and $41,000,000 dollars in cash.

Many people including a Dubai based Nigerian Ali Dan Abba celebrated the arrest of Abbas and other members of his network.

Speaking to QIBLA FM, Mr Abba said the criminal ways Abbas used to amassed wealth was a threat to the African Youth.

“He made a lot of young Africans believed money was everything and has to comes quick. Some of them including myself became disappointed with what we are making working here. until the news broke a lot of African youth became desperate because of some of the wealth he was showing online not knowing it was ill acquired”.
