Former General Secretary of Ghana’s ruling party Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie, popularly known as Sir John is dead.
Information made available to QIBLA FM indicates that he died Wednesday in Accra after a short period of illness.
He is said to have recently tested positive for the deadly Coronavirus (COVID-19) and was receiving treatment at the Korle Bu Teachings Hospital.
His health declined rapidly in recent days after he experienced complications with the virus during his hospitalization.
Mr. Afriyie served as the general secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) between 2010 and 2014.
President Nana Akuffo-Addo appointed him to serve as the CEO of the Forestry Commission in 2017 up until his death.
He attended University of Ghana and later the Ghana School of Law where he graduated with a Bachelor of Law degree.
